The Sr QCS Service Technician at ABB in Macon, GA is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting ABB’s pulp-and-paper quality control hardware and software at customer sites. The role involves preventive and corrective maintenance, customer service, and participation in projects such as upgrades and new installations. Candidates should have strong electrical and mechanical aptitude, experience using electrical test equipment, and the ability to read electrical drawings.

This Position reports to:
Operations Manager

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of ABB pulp-and-paper quality control products at ABB customer facilities under general supervision. This includes performing preventive and corrective maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of proprietary ABB hardware and software, as well as assisting with any projects, upgrades, new installations, and advanced services for the technician's assigned customer or region. This individual will be required to work independently or as part of a small site team to provide service for customers of ABB pulp-and-paper quality control solutions.

The work model for the role is: Onsite (must be in Macon, GA)

This role is contributing to the Process Automation Process Industries Pulp & Paper division.

You will be mainly accountable for:
  • Maintain ABB's suite of quality control hardware and software. This includes but is not limited to; cleaning debris from sensors, troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues with the frame and sensor package, troubleshooting the computer system and HMI/control software, and maintaining the working state of the entire ABB quality control solution at site. Handle customer questions about the state of the ABB system.
  • Handle customer service-related issues while fostering the customer relationship and working to solve technical problems on-site. Deal directly with, and communicate effectively with plant operators, plant management, 3rd party vendors, and other ABB personnel in support of service operations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment applying own technical knowledge and experience to resolve problems. Training on ABB products and services will be provided; however, a basic understanding of electrical theory and electrical safety is required for the training to be beneficial.
  • When required, play an active role in various projects such as upgrades, new installations, or new functionality for customers. Coordinate work with other groups to ensure meeting commitments.

Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree in a related field and 8 years of electrical/electronics, instrumentation or process control related work/military experience required or HS Diploma and 10 years of related work/military experience required
  • Candidates must know how to use electrical test equipment such as voltmeters or multi-meters safely
  • Mechanical/Electrical aptitude is strongly preferred
  • Candidates must be comfortable using basic hand tools
  • Candidates should be able to diagnose malfunctioning electrical systems up to 240 VAC/870 VDC and perform preventive maintenance using electrical test equipment
  • Candidate should know how to identify voltage systems that are above the level 240 VAC/870 VDC so they can safely avoid contact
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and utilize for troubleshooting electrical systems is required
